| A |
Production Well |
A fully productive well used for extracting minerals, brine, or geothermal fluids. It meets all engineering and operational requirements for commercial production. |
| B |
Development / Appraisal Well |
A well drilled to evaluate, confirm, or delineate a known mineralized zone. It is not yet fully productive and is used to assess quality, quantity, and extraction potential. |
| C |
Exploration Well |
A well drilled in an area where mineralization is suspected but not yet proven. It aims to collect geological and geophysical data to determine the presence and economic viability of minerals. |
| D |
Observation / Monitoring / Abandoned Well |
A well used for monitoring environmental conditions, groundwater levels, or brine movement. In some classifications, it also includes wells that were drilled but found non-productive and subsequently abandoned. |
| E |
Evaluation / Enhanced / Experimental |
A well drilled to assess the extent, quality, and commercial potential of a mineral or hydrocarbon deposit following an initial discovery. It is used to collect additional geological, geophysical, and reservoir data before full development. |
