Within 30 miles of Lockhart are six institutions of higher learning, including Texas State University, The University of Texas, Concordia College, St. Edward's University, Huston-Tillotson College, and Austin Community College. Lockhart is also equipped with its own Technology Center offering a variety of computer training courses.

Lockhart's ISD has one pre-kindergarten, five grammar schools, one junior high, and one high school. Three hospitals serve the Lockhart area, and the Lockhart Emergency Medical Service is second to none, with three mobile intensive care units in the fleet. Numerous family physicians, dentists, and other health care professionals round out the medical needs of our residents. Seton Lockhart Center for Healthcare and Seton Lockhart Specialty Clinic are available, and in case of an emergency, contact 911. Lockhart Post-Register serves as the local newspaper. Founded in 1872 as the News Echo, after multiple mergers, the paper became known as the Lockhart Post Register in 1915.
