Does your student walk, bike, or roll to school? With assistance from the Oregon Department of Transportation, the City of Halsey and Central Linn School District are creating a Safe Routes to School Plan to improve walking and biking conditions for students and families. Across Oregon, Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Programs are working to make it safer, easier, and more fun for families to be active on the way to school. We could use your help identifying active transportation challenges and opportunities in Halsey.

The City of Halsey recently received Safe Routes to School planning assistance from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). Through this program, the City of Halsey, Central Linn School District, and ODOT are working together to develop an SRTS Plan for Central Linn Elementary and Central Linn High School. The plan will identify potential street improvements that support safer walking and biking and recommend education and engagement strategies that encourage students and families to be active on their way to school. The team from Alta Planning + Design, an active transportation consulting firm, is guiding the planning process.

We want to hear from you!

"Walk Audit"
October 1, 2026 at 3 pm

This fall, the project team will evaluate and prioritize safety needs near the schools. As part of this work, the team will visit the community and conduct a walk audit during student dismissal at Central Linn Elementary on October 1, 2026 at 3pm. Project team members and community participants will observe and document walking and biking conditions around the schools. The findings will help shape the construction, education, and engagement recommendations included in the final SRTS Plan.
