Welcome to Barnes Junior School

It is a privilege to welcome you to Barnes Junior School.

I became Headteacher of Barnes in January 2025 and, from the moment I joined the school, I have been committed to making Barnes a place where every child is known, valued and given the opportunity to succeed.

Our vision is simple: we want children to receive an excellent education while developing the confidence, character and skills they need for the next stage of their lives. We want our pupils to enjoy coming to school, to feel safe and supported, and to be challenged to achieve their very best.

At the heart of life at Barnes are our four values: 'Honesty', 'Compassion', 'Resilience' and 'Courage'. These are not simply words displayed around our school, we want them to shape how our children learn, how they treat other people and how they respond when things are difficult.

Alongside our values, our three school rules provide clear and consistent expectations for everyone: 'Ready', 'Respectful' and 'Safe'. We expect our children to be 'Ready' to learn and make the most of each opportunity, 'Resepctful' in the way that they treat themselves, other people and their environment and 'Safe' in the choices that they make and in the way that they look after themselves and one another.

We believe children thrive when expectations are high, relationships are strong and adults work together. We therefore place great importance on our partnership with parents and carers. As a husband and a dad myself, I understand the trust that families place in a school when they hand over their children each day. It is a responsibility that I, and the whole team at Barnes, take very seriously.

We are ambitious for every child. That means providing strong teaching and a carefully planned curriculum, but education at Barnes extends beyond the classroom. We want our children to have rich experiences, discover new interests, develop independence and create memories that will stay with them long after they leave us.

Barnes is a school where children feel that they belong. We want every pupil, whatever their starting point or individual needs, to know that we believe in them and that we will support and challenge them. We want every child and their supporting network to be proud to learn and proud to achieve.

Whether you are already part of our school community or are considering Barnes Junior School for your child, I hope our website gives you a sense of who we are and what matters to us. I would also encourage prospective families to come and visit us, meet our staff and children, and experience Barnes for themselves.
