Our CTO, Tom Woodhouse, is a European Patent Attorney who spent years analysing claims, mapping prior art and building prosecution responses. By early 2025, he could see that reasoning models were improving, but reliable patent analysis still required too much manual prompting, checking, challenging and cross-checking.
The aim was not to make AI sound more confident. It was to expose the reasoning: how the claim is construed, how the cited reference maps to it, and what evidence supports each conclusion.
The Attain reasoning engine was built to automate, refine and expose that verification work. It was tested on real prosecution, drafting and invention disclosure cases before being brought to market.
In late 2025, Attain IP spun out of Page White Farrer to bring the technology to the wider IP profession.
