National-scale SCEP training programme recognised for delivering 98.8% compliance among 16,600 Irish beef farmers
Aurion Learning together with the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) have been awarded Gold in the Brandon Hall Group Excellence Awards for Best Compliance Training for the Suckler Carbon Efficiency Programme (SCEP) Training Programme.
The award recognises a programme designed to address a significant compliance challenge: ensuring 16,600 Irish beef farmers completed mandatory training by a fixed deadline as a condition of continued participation in the EU co-funded SCEP scheme.
SCEP presented a significant learning challenge: 16,600 farmers needed to complete more than four hours of training covering complex technical requirements, within a fixed timeframe and with varying levels of digital confidence.
Aurion worked with DAFM to develop a digital-first programme designed around the needs of its audience. Seven interactive eLearning modules combined video demonstrations, real-world scenarios and knowledge checks, with an 80% pass mark ensuring completion reflected genuine understanding.
Delivered through a purpose-built learning portal, the programme provided a simple, accessible experience while enabling DAFM to manage and track learning at national scale. A dedicated helpdesk, targeted communications, instructional guidance and in-person support further helped remove barriers to completion.
The eLearning programme delivered against its key objectives:
- 98.8% completion: 16,403 of 16,600 farmers completed their training within the required timeframe.
- 93.7% online completion:15,370 participants completed the programme entirely online.
- 107,000+ module completions: providing DAFM with a comprehensive audit trail for programme reporting.
- 80% knowledge-check pass rate: ensuring learning outcomes were measured alongside completion.
Commenting on the award, Gavin Woods, Managing Director at Aurion Learning said:
“We’re incredibly proud to receive this gold Brandon Hall Award alongside DAFM. The SCEP programme is a great example of what can be achieved when learning is designed around the needs of its audience and supported by the right technology, communication and learner support. It also reflects the strength of our growing capability in external learning, helping organisations engage large and diverse audiences with learning that works.”
The Gold Brandon Hall Award is the latest recognition of Aurion Learning’s expertise in designing and delivering learning for external audiences at scale.
In 2025, Aurion won Best Education Initiative at the 2025 eGovernment Awards, for its work with the HSE National Office for Suicide Prevention (NOSP) on the Let’s Talk About Suicide online training programme.
The SCEP programme is also shortlisted as a finalist for Best Education Initiative at this year’s eGovernment Awards, providing further recognition of its impact.
