Hi! My name is Cady Faus and I'm a mixed media artist living in Boulder, Colorado. I study the arts of natural dyeing, textile collaging, and wearable art. My interest in local land stewardship is reflected in my art practice, which pays attention to sustainability, water-usage, organic, local, and found materials, regenerative agriculture, and community building through farming practices. My current focus is on Japanese traditional methods of resist dyeing and design making, called Katazome and Tsutsugaki. A through-line of my choice in medium is a respect for artisanal folk traditions and intentionally slow, time-intensive processes. My practice is one of experimentation, devotion, and play; in search of an understanding and connection to natural material, history and place, and to self and community.

I was raised running around the woods and lakes at the base of Lions Head Peak amid the CT chapter of the Appalachian Trail.

Life long folk artist, maker, and crafter using natural elements and diverse mediums.

Forever changing; forever oscillating between loneliness and moments of awe and joy; forever curious, a beginner and beginning; a life-long student.

My art has been shown at School House Studios in Boulder, Colorado, the Benchmark Theater in Lakewood, Colorado, as well as the Canyon Gallery at the Boulder Public Library. My zines have been sold at Mutiny Information Cafe in Denver, Colorado and the Trident Cafe in Boulder, Colorado.

I've worked for Karen Noyes, polymer clay artist; apprenticed for frame builder and gallery owner, Robert Platz; and studied paper making at the Haystack School under the expertise of Georgia Deal. I've studied indigo dye and Kakishibu in Japan with Takimoto Somesho and Makiko Takunaga.

I'm interested in community building, arts therapy, the role of gallery and community art spaces, and the promotion of diversity and equity in art communities.
