Fun and well-researched, recommend before or after you go!

I’ve been to Iceland twice and obviously love it, and love book too. Bought the book after the two trips and learned even more about Iceland than I already knew from other research and my visits.I highly recommend this fun and well-researched activity book, whether you’re about to go, thinking of going, or after you went!

A fun and interactive way to learn about Iceland

Armchair Iceland is a delightful cross between a travel guide and a puzzle book - as a crossword and cryptogram enthusiast who also loves puffin facts I really enjoyed this book! It's very easy to put down and pick up, and there is a lot of variation between the types of puzzles and between the topics each section focuses on.

It was fun!

But.... ! Nah, it was fun!!! Perfect way to relax after a long workday. Not too challenging but not too easy. Puzzles are well done, Iceland facts were fun to learn and really creative.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Iceland the cosy way

This makes a difference from coffee table photo books of places and travel guides more suited to being in a place than finding out about it from the comfort of home. This book is great for those looking to holiday in Iceland and those unable to travel there for whatever reason. Working through the puzzles gives you more of a feeling of the place, a bit like a treasure hunt from the comfort of your armchair.

Better then the real trip honestly

So I grabbed this book thinking its just another activity thing but its actually super fun?? The puzzles are creative and you end up going down all these rabbit holes learning about vikings and glaciers and weird icelandic food. Theres this one part where you roll dice and do a whole quest thing which sounds nerdy but I got way into it.The waterfall bingo at the begining is such a good start and the aurora quiz at night with food pairings?? Such a cool idea. You do need internet tho cause alot of it is about looking stuff up and watching videos which some people might not like but I thought it made it feel more real.If your going to iceland or just want to pretend you are, def get this. Buying it for two of my friends forsure.

I am fascinated by Iceland and this was such a different book - one with puzzles to take you around - This was different from any travel book ive read before, and that made it a unique experience. however as someone who knows very little about the place, constantly having to look up things on google kept taking me out of the reading experience. + some pictures would have been nice.

Very Entertaining way to Learn a Lot About Iceland

Puzzle books aren't usually my thing, but this was really a series of games about Icelandic lore and trivia. It really helped me learn a lot about Iceland. The author has combined puzzles, games, and timed challenges to push readers into researching Iceland online, not just inside the book. Very entertaining! This was an interesting way to get people to learn more about a place they may never have visited. I hope that the next book is on Ireland.

Thank you to NetGalley for this book in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book very much! This book takes you on a journey through Iceland in an entertaining and engaging way. This book has a puzzle for everybody. The author does a good job incorporating a different type of puzzle while making sure it flows with the story. It made me so nostalgic for Iceland to the point of planning another trip out there.

Not only is this a book for puzzlers but also travelers. I learned a lot about Iceland while doing the puzzle, and even found a couple of places that I would like to see. I wish this book would've been out when I went to Iceland a couple of years ago.

All opinions are my own.

How I wish I had taken this book with me. Interesting, fun and informative. Such a great idea. I can't wait for more.

This is such a fun and creative way to explore Iceland without leaving home. I love how it mixes puzzles, trivia, and little adventure-style missions with real facts about Iceland’s nature, history, and culture. The activities are varied enough that you never get bored, one minute you’re solving a crossword, the next you’re doing a quirky quiz or a mini travel quest. It’s relaxing but still engaging, perfect for unwinding after a long day. I also enjoyed learning interesting Icelandic facts along the way.

This book is such a clever concept—part travel guide, part puzzle adventure. It's not just about Iceland's stunning landscapes; it pulls you into the culture, history, and even language through interactive challenges. I loved how it mixes trivia, crosswords, and even physical activities to keep you engaged. Perfect for anyone who wants to "travel" without leaving home, or just add some fun to learning about Iceland. Highly recommend for curious minds and puzzle lovers!

The tone is warm and easy to follow, and the mix of travel facts with playful tasks keeps things interesting without trying too hard. It’s relaxing, creative, and just different enough to stand out. If you want something light but immersive to unwind with, this book is a great pick.

This was a great concept, but I would of preferred to learn from the book and not need to research

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for this review copy and the opportunity !

I was excited by the concept of this book. While I am not an avid traveller, I do love to read and learn. Geography, history and culture are all interests of mine. The prospect of travelling from the comfort of my armchair is compelling.

I didn't make it far into the book. I think where it fell short for me was that I didn't want to have a phone or internet on hand. While reading, I prefer to disconnect from devices. I would have loved a book with a similar theme that was more self-contained—a book where I don't need to go online to find the answers.

If the book had incorporated local short stories, myths, or legends from the area and found ways to weave the answers to the questions into the stories in an engaging way, I would have enjoyed it much more.

As written, "Armchair Iceland" was not the right fit for my reading preferences.

This was a fun book. There is a lot of information about Iceland and since the information is presented in a wide variety of puzzles, it doesn't overwhelm you like some nonfiction books do.

I loved it. I love puzzle books and this one has a ton of neat facts about Iceland. It's probably the closest I'll ever get to visiting.

This book is such a clever mix of travel, puzzles, and storytelling. It lets you experience Iceland in a completely new way—full of charm, mystery, and little discoveries along the way. The interactive format keeps you engaged, and the visuals make you feel like you're really there. Perfect for anyone who loves adventure and brain-teasing challenges from the comfort of home!

Really amazing tight had gone into this guide and you can only really appreciate by reading it. So many puzzles but not just that, they are so varied as well. Highly recommend as it is informative and challenging, sometimes too challenging. Great guide

This book was a gift from my niece and it provided a much-needed and pleasant distraction from my usual routine. I’ve been fascinated by Iceland for some time, and this offered a different way to connect with the country that felt more substantial than just looking at pictures. The mix of activities is its real strength. One evening I might be working on a crossword about local folklore, and the next, I’m completely absorbed in a logic puzzle set near a glacier. It feels less like studying and more like exploring. I enjoyed how the author weaves in cultural details and little facts so that I'd learn something without it feeling like it was a lesson. The variety kept my mind active, and the pacing is just right to pick up for short bursts. It’s a thoughtful and well-put-together book that manages to be both calming and stimulating. It has definitely fueled my desire to see Iceland for myself one day.
