After weeks of preparation, every outcome counts in District 12-6A.
The area's largest schools are finally playing for postseason berths this week with everyone taking part except idle Harker Heights. The Knights’ will jump into the race next week against Lake Belton.
District 12-5A, Division II is already in full swing, and the remaining Class 4A and Class 3A schedules will start in Week 7.
THURSDAY
PFLUGERVILLE WEISS (3-1, 2-0 12-5A-II) at SHOEMAKER (1-2, 0-1), 7 p.m. at Joseph L. Searles III Stadium
Despite entering just its second district game, this might be a must-win situation for the Grey Wolves, who are looking to reach the playoffs for the fourth time in five years. A loss leaves Shoemaker with an extremely uphill battle in the nine-team league. The visiting Wolves are averaging 43.3 points in their trio of wins.
FRIDAY
CHAPARRAL (1-3, 0-0 12-6A) at BRYAN (1-3, 0-0), 7 p.m.
The Bobcats have only won consecutive games three times in their existence, and this would be an ideal time to increase the frequency. With a victory, Chaparral earns its first district win since 2023. Last week, senior quarterback Bryson Coleman had 129 yards passing, 84 yards rushing and three total touchdowns for the Bobcats.
COPPERAS COVE (2-2, 0-0 12-6A) at TEMPLE (1-3, 0-0), 7 p.m.
The Bulldawgs have lost the last two and five of the last six encounters against the Wildcats, and the most recent contests have not been close. Copperas Cove lost 32-0 last year following a 42-14 defeat in 2024.
The Bulldawgs had no issues last week at Round Rock Westwood, though, amassing 466 total yards in a 49-15 blowout.
WACO MIDWAY (3-1, 0-0 12-6A) at LAKE BELTON (3-1, 0-0), 7 p.m.
The Broncos could make a statement by defeating the area powerhouse Panthers, who handed Belton its first loss last week in a 21-10 affair. Lake Belton averages 42.3 points per game, while Midway is only allowing 17.5, setting up a clash of styles. The Broncos have been held below 18 points only three times ever.
KILLEEN (2-1, 1-0 12-5A-DI) at PFLUGERVILLE CONNALLY (1-2, 0-2), 7 p.m.
The Kangaroos found a way to win last week, beating Pflugerville Hendrickson by a single point, 16-15, and now they have an opportunity to go 2-0 in district for the first time since 2023. The Cougars have been struggling offensively of late, combining for 13 in their previous two games. Killeen follows with a home
game against winless Leander Glenn.
PFLUGERVILLE (2-2) at ELLISON (1-3), 7 p.m. at Leo Buckley Stadium
The Eagles never would have envisioned they would be in this position after opening in the preseason rankings, but all will be forgotten if Ellison returns to the postseason, and this is its last tune-up ahead of hosting Waco in the District 8-5A, Division II opener Oct. 9. The Eagles scored 52 points last week after averaging 28.7 through three games.
BELTON (3-1) at SAN ANGELO CENTRAL (2-2), 7 p.m.
Coming off their first loss under head coach Joshua Mann, the Tigers would love to get back on track before their District 8-5A, Division II opener, but this series has been controlled by the Bobcats in recent years. The teams have played in each of the past four seasons with the Tigers’ lone win coming in a 41-38 shootout in 2023. The other three games were decided by a combined 76 points.
LAGO VISTA (3-1) at LAMPASAS (2-2), 7 p.m.
In between state-ranked opponents, the Badgers will look to beat the Vikings for a fifth consecutive time in their first clash since 2019. Lampasas lost 35-14 to Class 4A, Division II No. 8 Wimberley last week, and following next week’s bye, it returns with a District 12-4A, Division I opener versus No. 1 Stephenville.
The Yellow Jackets have not lost since 2024.
GATESVILLE (2-2) at BURNET (0-4), 7:30 p.m.
This is the beginning of a significant road trip for the Hornets, who play four of their next five games on the road, including the upcoming District 13-4A, Division II opener at Waco Connally. Gatesville showed off its primary offensive weapon in a 58-38 loss to Whitney last week, when junior receiver Grady Keeton caught nine passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns.
CUERO (4-0) at SALADO (2-2), 7 p.m.
The last time these teams played was 2022, when the Gobblers earned a 13-6 win. The odds of a similar outcome are pretty slim, though. The Eagles are averaging 42.8 points after defeating Manor New Tech 64-21 last week, while Cuero has scored at least 28 points in every game this season. The Gobblers’ last loss in the regular season came on Oct. 9, 2025.
FLORENCE (1-3) at HICO (4-0), 7 p.m.
Thanks to a 50-7 victory against Austin Achieve last week, the Buffaloes snapped an 18-game losing skid stretching back to 2024. Florence has not won consecutive games since 2021, and defeating the unbeaten Tigers will be difficult. Hico scored at least 56 points in each of its last two games and beat the Buffaloes 57-7 last year.
