The recent guest “Column” (Sept. 12) from Dan Johnson and Ross Peterson, discrediting aspects of Patrick Belmont’s candidacy for Utah House of Representatives, District 3, raises a few questions in reference to the article’s defense of “truth and transparency.” (See HJ’s Belmont response, Sept. 12.)
The column’s authors proclaim largeness of thinking beyond party boundaries, which serves to unite them with Patrick Belmont, who has also exercised partisan fluidity. By demonstrating that party affiliation is secondary to the issues before us, they have elevated the current political debate. Thanks to all three.
Belmont broke no rules by accepting money from the Democrats, whose financial support initially espoused his platform. Now as an Independent, Belmont hopes to gather greater support from a more diversified electorate.
Let’s vote for the person who best represents our concerns regarding future state legislation, such pressing issues as: water, climate, public lands, voter clarity, growth and taxation, the give- and-take of partisan fluidity—thus striving to serve the “common good.”
