A roadmap for the next UN chief

» Leading the United Nations has always been a balancing act, but the breakdown of the postwar global order has added a new dimension of complexity to the role. The next secretary-general, who will take office in 2027, will fill the most prominent position in multilateral governance at a time when multilateralism is arguably at its nadir. To rebuild trust in international cooperation, the UN's leader must view this crisis for what it is: an unprecedented opportunity for fundamental reform.

Education is useless if it leads to unhappy lives

» For me, the biggest challenge of our education systems is that we fail to prepare our children for life. With all their tests and exams, crowded timetables, homework overload and overwhelming requirements in exams, schools prepare students for universities, but not for life. Graduates might in theory be experts in algebra and cell systems, but they don't have self-confidence, nor goals, nor practical skills, and are scared of their own future. They are far too often unhappy with themselves, constantly under pressure and unable to build strong relationships with others.
