A car chase continued through NSW, the ACT and then back again before police finally arrested the alleged driver when he tried to run away from them on foot.

A NSW Police spokesperson said officers were on patrol in Crestwood, Queanbeyan, around 2 am on Thursday (24 September) when they tried to stop a Kia hatchback.

A pursuit was initiated when the driver allegedly refused to pull over and the ensuing car chase continued on Kendall Avenue North before turning onto Canberra Avenue and entering the ACT.

Officers with ACT Policing took over the chase through the suburbs of Tralee, Hume and Tuggeranong before turning onto Lanyon Drive where the car re-entered NSW at Jerrabomberra.

NSW officers re-engaged, continuing the pursuit through the suburbs of Jerrabomberra Heights, Karabar and the Queanbeyan CBD before the driver went back to the ACT.

Ultimately, police successfully deployed road spikes on Yass Road, near the intersection of Sutton Road, and the car came to a stop on Crawford Street, Queanbeyan.

The accused driver, a 22-year-old man, allegedly ran from the car before he was arrested after a chase on foot.

“The man was searched and officers allegedly located and seized a flick knife,” the police spokesperson said.

“During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers allegedly located [and] seized a large sword, gloves and balaclavas.”

The man was charged with police pursuit, driving while disqualified and having custody of a knife in a public place.

He was refused bail to face the NSW Local Courts on Thursday.
