Leading the way to connect people with water, wildlife and wild places.
Inspiring Our Community
For more than 25 years, the Aquarium has served as a world of natural wonder, a hub of STEM education, a driver of conservation action and a sanctuary of fun. Visitors connect with more than 5,000 animals representing South Carolina’s rich biodiversity while enjoying interactive programs, immersive exhibits and stunning waterfront views. Visitors can also step inside the Sea Turtle Care Center™, a working hospital dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of sick and injured sea turtles.
Rooted in Downtown Charleston
Consistently ranked among the best places to visit, live and vacation, Charleston is the Aquarium’s natural habitat. Perched along the Charleston Harbor, we offer breathtaking views of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge and the historic USS Yorktown. Just steps away, you can explore cultural landmarks like the International African American Museum and Fort Sumter, making this area a vibrant hub of history, education and discovery. Whether you’re a local or visiting from afar, there’s no shortage of unforgettable experiences surrounding the Aquarium.
Committed to Excellence in Animal Care
We are proudly accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), a distinction awarded only to institutions that meet the highest standards of animal care and welfare. This recognition reflects our commitment to exceptional habitats, expert veterinary care and optimal nutrition — placing the Aquarium among the best in the nation. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, every visit, membership and donation directly supports this work, fueling animal care, conservation efforts and education programs across South Carolina. To maintain accreditation, we undergo a rigorous review every five years.
Advancing Inclusion and Belonging
We are committed to the continued work of inclusion, accessibility, diversity, equity, justice and belonging. Our culture is built on developing a team of unique voices from diverse backgrounds, working collaboratively to fulfill our mission of inspiring conservation of the natural world. Members of our team commit to actively practicing and promoting these principles daily.
Expanding Learning Across South Carolina
The Boeing Learning Lab at the Charleston Maritime Center serves as the hub for our STEM education programming, providing technological resources and immersive space for learners across the state to connect to the natural world. The Boeing Learning Lab also functions as a community space, unlocking opportunities for direct connection to the water like never before.
