Council affirms support for light rail on full 22-mile Beltline loop

The City Council unanimously adopted a resolution supporting light rail transit along the full Atlanta Beltline corridor. Councilmember Kelsea Bond introduced the measure, joined by 11 colleagues.

A substitute from Councilmember Byron Amos removed a clause opposing uses of the Beltline’s right-of-way that would impair future rail. It also struck remaining Beltline Tax Allocation District (TAD) revenue as a potential funding source. The resolution still calls More MARTA a “potential key funding source.”

The Council asked the Mayor’s Office, MARTA, and Atlanta Beltline, Inc. for a coordinated report on implementation and funding by January 26, 2027. Mayor Andre Dickens told Saporta Report rail will need money to run, not just to build, and that a more detailed plan is coming by year’s end.
