Welcome to Discover Navajo
Yá'át'ééh!
Discover Navajo is the official tourism program of the Navajo Nation Tourism Department, dedicated to showcasing the beauty, culture, history, and adventure found across the largest Indigenous nation in the United States.
More than a travel website, we are a bridge between visitors and authentic Navajo experiences. Our goal is to inspire meaningful travel that supports local businesses, strengthens our economy, and honors the traditions, stories, and lands of the Diné people.
Whether you're exploring towering sandstone canyons, standing beneath some of the darkest skies in North America, discovering centuries of history, or meeting talented Navajo artists and guides, every journey into Navajo Nation is an opportunity to experience a living culture with respect and appreciation.
What We Do
The Navajo Tourism Department serves as the official destination marketing organization for the Navajo Nation. Our work includes:
• Promoting destinations, parks, museums, cultural attractions, and outdoor recreation throughout the Navajo Nation.
• Supporting Navajo-owned tour operators, lodging providers, artists, entrepreneurs, and tourism businesses through marketing and promotional opportunities.
• Developing partnerships with state, national, and international tourism organizations to expand awareness of Navajo Nation as a premier travel destination.
• Conducting tourism research and visitor analytics to better understand travel trends and strengthen the Navajo Nation's tourism economy.
• Encouraging responsible tourism that respects our people, communities, sacred places, and environment.
Our History
The Navajo Tourism Department was established in 1986 by the Navajo Nation Council to promote tourism as an economic development initiative. Since then, the department has continued to evolve, expanding its marketing efforts, building partnerships across the travel industry, and helping visitors discover authentic Navajo experiences while supporting sustainable economic growth throughout the Nation. The department is funded in part through the Navajo Nation Hotel Occupancy Tax, helping invest in tourism promotion and destination development for communities across Navajo Nation.
Our Commitment
We believe tourism should do more than bring visitors to beautiful places.
It should create opportunities for local families, strengthen Navajo-owned businesses, preserve cultural traditions, encourage stewardship of our lands, and foster genuine understanding between people from around the world.
We invite you to experience our homeland with curiosity, respect, and Hózhó.
