New record
The High River Food Drive celebrated its 20th anniversary with a record in donations. 14,636 pounds of food was collected on Sept. 19 at the Salvation Army Warehouse. Over a 100 volunteers working on the day, along with the High River community donating, helped break the six year record. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Food Drive Chairperson, Cathy Anderson was thankful for the community support. “The support each year is fantastic,” she said. “The Salvation Army Food Bank is very thankful for your generosity. What a way to celebrate our 20th anniversary.” Anderson has been the chair of the Food Drive for 18 years and every time the final donations are counted, she is happy, not matter what the number says. “It’s just fantastic,” she said. “There’s nothing that beats it. It’s just pay off and blessings for the work that everyone has put into it.” Even though they broke the record for amount collected, that is not what is important. “As much as you want to beat your numbers, that’s not what it’s about, and you just want to give back to our community and that’s what’s nice about helping the Salvation Army.” All the donations given to the High River Salvation Army, stay in High River. “We are grateful for that as it will last them several months, so it’s pretty awesome and we’re all happy,” said Anderson.
