Important update for Mainers with marketplace health coverage:
In a statement addressing recent news, CoverME.gov Director Hilary Schneider shared:
“The Maine Department of Health and Human Services runs CoverME.gov, a state-based health insurance marketplace, so it is unaffected by yesterday’s announcement that hundreds of thousands will be removed from the Federal marketplace. Though the State will not begin 2027 Open Enrollment on CoverME.gov until November 1, 2026, we encourage Maine people who may be looking for health insurance coverage to visit CoverME.gov and see whether they may be eligible now, due to a qualifying life event such as getting married or divorced, moving, changing jobs, or losing other insurance coverage.”
Need health coverage?
If you or someone in your household needs health insurance, you may be able to find coverage options through Maine's Marketplace CoverME.gov. Maine's Marketplace at CoverME.gov is the place Mainers shop for comprehensive, affordable health coverage plans. These plans must provide essential benefits required by the Affordable Care Act, including prescription drugs, hospital care, laboratory services, maternity care, and more.
- Marketplace annual open enrollment period is November 1st through January 15th.
- Some people can enroll at other times of the year if they have a qualifying life event (QLE) that makes them eligible for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). Some SEPs require verification. More information about SEP eligibility and new requirements is available here.
- This flyer has helpful tips to make your enrollment easier and this video can help you use the Plan Compare Tool.
