The aim of the activities was to set up community-based waste management systems inside the municipal structure. \n The approach was to build awareness around this topic amongst the community and then support a community led committee to organize primary waste collection in the area. The committee organizes waste collection and waste fee collection in their ward. The municipality takes over the waste at a transfer station and receives fees from the committee for secondary collection and disposal. \n This community-based waste management system increases the trust of citizens in the waste collection system and therefore reduces littering and increases the willingness to pay for the service.",image:"/images/rural1.png",snapshot:{org:"DUHD, DOA/TDC of Hlaing Tar Yar and Dala, Thant Myanmar",funding:"Asian Development Bank",duration:"July to December 2020"},resources:[{title:"Plastic input into the Ayeyarwady",date:"2022-10-23T08:25:19.094Z",type:"Power Point",link:"https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1zwLVF0s1uvS4I-ZrE7_YPhf1jM4h54U8"},{title:"Ayeyarwady Plastic Survey Report",date:"2022-09-10T08:25:19.094Z",type:"Doc",link:"https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1zwLVF0s1uvS4I-ZrE7_YPhf1jM4h54U8"},{title:"Resources on Education for Local and Rural Schools in Myanmar",date:"2022-10-23T08:25:19.094Z",type:"Pdf",link:"https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1zwLVF0s1uvS4I-ZrE7_YPhf1jM4h54U8"}]},{title:"City waste management program in Hlaing Tharyar",des:"From Oct 2019 to Mar 2020, Thant Myanmar implemented different Solid Waste Management (SWM) related projects in Yea Oak Kan together with Cordaid. \n Yea Oak Kan is a densely populated village (over 40,000 people) in the low-income township of Hlaing Thar Yar. Blocked drainages and unhygienic conditions at the village are the results of inadequate waste collection and disposal. Because of that, the water level rises highly during the rainy season, floods houses and makes living conditions more difficult. \n Therefore, solving the waste situation became priority for the community. Projects for municipal waste collection and waste reduction were designed. \n The waste collection was quite successful leading to a doubling of waste collected: from 3 skips per week to 6 skips per week. The community organized itself to set up and finance a private collection system where households are able to drop off their waste on their doorstep and pay a monthly fee.",image:"/images/urban2.png",snapshot:{org:"Department of Fishery and Thant Myanmar",funding:"Embassy of Denmark in Myanmar",duration:"December 2020 \u2013 April 2021"},resources:[{title:"Plastic input into the Ayeyarwady",date:"2022-10-23T08:25:19.094Z",type:"Power Point",link:"https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1zwLVF0s1uvS4I-ZrE7_YPhf1jM4h54U8"},{title:"Ayeyarwady Plastic Survey Report",date:"2022-09-10T08:25:19.094Z",type:"Doc",link:"https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1zwLVF0s1uvS4I-ZrE7_YPhf1jM4h54U8"},{title:"Resources on Education for Local and Rural Schools in Myanmar",date:"2022-10-23T08:25:19.094Z",type:"Pdf",link:"https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1zwLVF0s1uvS4I-ZrE7_YPhf1jM4h54U8"}]}
