UFPPC was the organizer of a 88successful March around the Mall on Dec. 8, 2002, and of a full afternoon of 89anti-war and pro-peace activities on Feb. 15, 2003, which included a rally 90with speakers and singers in McKinley Park, a march from McKinley Park to the 91Federal Courthouse in which more than a thousand people particpated, and a 92Celebration of Peace in the Washington State 93History Museum. 94Like the March around the Mall before it, UFPPC's events made the front page in 95News 96Tribune. 112liberty and justice for all, we hope you will consider joining 113us in seeking paths that 114lead to peace, justice, and healing for the United States of 115America and for the world.
116
The principal locus of action of People for Peace, Justice, and 117Healing is the weekly Saturday morning meeting, where we share concerns and plan 118activities. We have been involved in educational events, lectures, 119study groups, workshops, and calls for community action. 120Please consider joining us next Saturday morning. All people of good 121will are welcome. 122
How does PJH function? We are a deliberately leaderless 123group in which decisions are made by consensus at the weekly 124Saturday meetings. We always welcome new participants. 125
A word about "healing" and beliefs. People for 126Peace, Justice, and Healing does not advocate a particular set of beliefs, 127is not pursuing a political program, and does not endorse candidates 128in political campaigns. We call on all people 129of good will to join us in trying to further our common 130understanding of the challenges we face in finding the paths to 131lasting peace and social justice. But valuing peace, justice, 132and the health of the earth are not, in our opinion, enough. 133
We live in a nation born of 134a bright dream, but also marred from the start by the historic 135wrongs of genocide and slavery. 136Leadership in our contemporary society, misshapen by the powerful and 137violent institutions of patriarchy, exploitation, and militarism, 138continues to be marked by the manipulation and reinforcement 139of the patterns of prejudice and 140fear that help maintain them. PJHers tend to 141believe that peaceful progress toward addressing these matters 142depends on finding ways to heal the wounds 143that have too often blighted and stymied our dearest hopes. 144This is not always possible, of course, 145and our efforts often fail to bear immediate fruit. 146But we trust in their long-term efficacy nevertheless. Our emphasis on 147"healing" signifies a recognition that progress toward peace and 148justice, if it is to be enduring, must involve learning about the harm 149that has been done (and is being done). Reconciliation can only come 150through acknowledgment of the truth, however painful that may sometimes be. 151
152

Poetry for Peace, Justice, and Healing
153
the path of sideways trees and 154my tribe has many fingers were 155written by PJHer Karen Konrad. 156
Jerusalem was written by PJHer Sheila Renton. 157
158Iraq Is Like Crack, 159Pox Americana, 160Dominoes Again, 161I Turn to Prayer, and It Must 162Be Fate, all inspired by the American adventure in Iraq, were 163written by R.P.
