<p><b>Working in Partnership</b></p> 139 <p>ICT's current strategy is to work in partnership with local civil society 140 organisations Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia who build the self-esteem 141 of children and young people living at the margins of society. Although 142 our mandate is international, we currently support 4 small programmes 143 of work in <a href="cambodia_home.html">Cambodia</a>, <a href="kenya_home.html">Kenya</a>, <a href="india_home.html">India</a> 144 and <a href="srilanka_home.html">Sri Lanka</a>. ICT intends to build 145 the capacity of these current partners before developing new partnerships.</p> 146 <p>ICT supports partners who give some of the world's most vulnerable children 147 back their childhood:</p> 148 <ul> 149 <li>AIDS orphans</li> 150 <li>street and working children (many who would be considered child labourers)</li> 151 <li>children and young people displaced by extreme poverty, disease 152 or armed conflict</li> 153 <li>children and young people who come from broken homes.</li> 154 </ul> 155 <p>Typically 156 children living at the margins of society grow up too fast. ICT 157 believes that practical solutions such as education and vocational 158 training can prepare them for independent living and reintegration 159 back into society. Informal education is supported to prepare children 160 for school and/or training: sport, theatre, dance and the visual 161 arts make learning fun and help children build their confidence, 162 participate in activities with other children, and take the first 163 steps towards reintegrating themselves back into society.</p> 164 <p>ICT also works with its partners to tackle the root causes of poverty 165 and displacement by implementing integrated solutions. Although 166 many of the projects that ICT supports target urban slums and street 167 shanties, rural areas, where there is extreme poverty, are also 168 targeted, so that poor families at risk of migrating to urban slums 169 receive help in making their lands more productive and learning 170 how to start small businesses. Also, a global economy means that 171 the world is much more interconnected and that many of the products 172 that we buy in the developed world are partially developed by poor 173 people in the developing world; ICT is, therefore, very actively 174 involved in supporting programmes that teach children and young 175 people about their rights, so that they will not be exploited. Organisational 176 development is also supported, so that solutions are sustainable.</p> 177 <p>ICT 178 adds value to its partnerships through information sharing, training 179 opportunities, promoting partners' projects through raising their 180 international profiles, offering expert advice and helping to raise 181 much needed funds.</p> 182 <p>ICT's 183 partners are all registered as local non-profit civil society organisations, 184 which are autonomous from ICT.
