Each license can be activated on 5 machines.</p><p data-h="25" class="mb-3 mb-3 text-lg "><span data-h="24" class="font-bold">Machine transfers</span></p><p data-h="26" class="mb-3 mb-3 text-lg ">Machine transfers are handled simply by entering your license key on a new machine -- if you try to activate beyond the 5-machine limit, you will be presented with a dialog to deactivate a prior machine or cancel.</p><p data-h="28" class="mb-3 mb-3 text-lg "><span data-h="27" class="font-bold">Refresh period</span></p><p data-h="29" class="mb-3 mb-3 text-lg ">Currently, licenses must be validated at least every 30 days -- the app attempts to do this automatically after 10 days, and starting at 20 days, if it hasn't successfully validated (e.g. due to no network connection), it will alert you.</p><p data-h="31" class="mb-3 mb-3 text-lg "><span data-h="30" class="font-bold">Offline licensing</span></p><p data-h="32" class="mb-3 mb-3 text-lg ">For lifetime license holders, network-less activation and refresh is available for air-gapped or network-restricted machines. Each invoice can be updated <span data-h="51" class="font-bold">one time</span> only. We take the following measures to protect you and your data.</p><section data-h="66" class="max-w-3xl mb-10"><p data-h="63" class="mb-3 mb-3 text-lg "><span data-h="62" class="font-bold">Minimal data collection</span></p><p data-h="65" class="mb-3 mb-3 text-lg ">Mouseless collects only the very minimum data needed to activate and validate licenses, and to check for updates (if you have automatic checking enabled, or choose to 'check for updates' from the menu).  The only data collected by the app are: a securely-hashed, anonymized machine identifier; your license key; the version of Mouseless you are using; and your OS version and architecture (e.g. "macOS 26 arm64").  Please see our full <a data-h="64" class="text-(--link-fg-alt) cursor-pointer hover:underline" href="/terms">privacy policy</a> for more details.</p></section><section data-h="70" class="max-w-3xl mb-10"><p data-h="68" class="mb-3 mb-3 text-lg "><span data-h="67" class="font-bold">Secure by design</span></p><p data-h="69" class="mb-3 mb-3 text-lg ">Mouseless minimizes attack surface area and takes advantage of the latest security features of the operating system to protect your data.  On macOS, this includes hardened runtime and using the minimal entitlements for Mouseless to function.</p></section><section data-h="83" class="max-w-3xl mb-10"><p data-h="72" class="mb-3 mb-3 text-lg "><span data-h="71" class="font-bold">Robust privacy measures and transparency</span></p><p data-h="73" class="mb-3 mb-3 text-lg ">Mouseless requires a low-level keyboard event hook so that it can utilize global hotkeys and suppress keyboard events to other apps when the overlay is up.  We take this privilege very seriously, and have the following measures in place for your security and peace of mind:</p><p data-h="76" class="mb-3 pl-2 -indent-2 mb-3 text-lg ">- <span data-h="74" class="font-bold">Strict boundaries</span>: Keypress (or any other HID input) data is <span data-h="75" class="italic">never</span> transmitted to disk or network.</p><p data-h="78" class="mb-3 pl-2 -indent-2 mb-3 text-lg ">- <span data-h="77" class="font-bold">Short data life</span>: Keypress data in memory is strictly minimized: only current modifier state and up to 3 keydown/keyup events are stored at a time (5 if the user invokes 'display input' mode e.g. for demoing or troubleshooting).</p><p data-h="80" class="mb-3 pl-2 -indent-2 mb-3 text-lg ">- <span data-h="79" class="font-bold">Memory hygiene</span>: Input data is stored in buffers that are zeroed-out before release, preventing persistence in deallocated memory.</p><p data-h="82" class="mb-3 pl-2 -indent-2 mb-3 text-lg ">- <span data-h="81" class="font-bold">Total transparency</span>: All disk and network activity is transparently viewable via standard system monitoring tools.
