My research focuses on the dynamics of the Southern Ocean and its role in regulating heat, freshwater, carbon, and material cycles within the climate system. I utilize a range of tools including in-situ ocean observations (such as ship-based measurements, autonomous profiling floats, and biologging), satellite remote sensing, numerical simulations, and statistical data analysis. I aim to distill complex physical processesâsuch as turbulence and the interactions between the ocean, atmosphere, sea ice, and ice shelvesâinto simplified frameworks, while exploring climate variability on decadal to centennial scales. I am also committed to enhancing the sustainability of ocean monitoring systems by employing advanced tools like ocean gliders and machine learning techniques.</p> 66 </section> 67 68 <section id="one"> 69 <h2><font color="#135C89"> WHAT I STUDY </font></h2> 70 <div class="row"> 71 <article class="col-4 col-6-xsmall work-item"> 72 <a href="./more_SOdynamics.html" 73 class="image fit thumb"><img src="images/thumbs/ocean.jpg" 74 alt="" /></a> 75 <h3>Southern Ocean dynamics</h3> 76 <p>What is the response to a changing climate?</p> 77 </article> 78 79 <article class="col-4 col-6-xsmall work-item"> 80 <a href="more_AntarcticMelt.html" 81 class="image fit thumb"><img src="images/thumbs/Antarctica.jpg" 82 alt="" /></a> 83 <h3>Antarctic ice melt</h3> 84 <p>Antarctic Ice Sheet possesses 70% of Earth's freshwater</p> 85 </article> 86 87 <article class="col-4 col-6-xsmall work-item"> 88 <a href="more_Carbon.html" 89 class="image fit thumb"><img src="images/thumbs/krills.png" 90 alt="" /></a> 91 <h3>Global carbon cycle</h3> 92 <p>SO absorbs 75% heat and 40% carbon of anthropogenic</p> 93 </article> 94 95 <article class="col-4 col-6-xsmall work-item"> 96 <a href="more_Eddy.html" 97 class="image fit thumb"><img src="images/thumbs/eddy.png" 98 alt="" /></a> 99 <h3>Ocean mixing</h3> 100 <p>Understanding the chaos and the system of geophysical fluid</p> 101 </article> 102 103 <article class="col-4 col-6-xsmall work-item"> 104 <a href="more_Autonomy.html" 105 class="image fit thumb"><img src="images/thumbs/monitor.png" 106 alt="" /></a> 107 <h3>Towards optimized ocean monitoring system</h3> 108 <p>International collaboration and autonomy in icy ocean</p> 109 </article> 110 111 <article class="col-4 col-6-xsmall work-item"> 112 <a href="more_ML.html" 113 class="image fit thumb"><img src="images/thumbs/codes.png" 114 alt="" /></a> 115 <h3>Frontiers in oceanography with computational innovations</h3> 116 <p>Earth science is big data</p> 117 </article> 118 119 </div> 120 121 </br> 122 <h3>
122Research Background</h3> 123 124 <p>The Southern Ocean is the only sea that connects the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. The Antarctic ice sheet, surrounded by the Southern Ocean, holds 90% of the Earth's ice and 70% of the freshwater on land, capable to raise the global sea level by 58 meters. More than 90% of the heat generated by global warming is absorbed by the oceans, whereas the Southern Ocean alone absorbs up to ~75% of its heat and ~40% of the anthropogenic CO2. Despite its climatic importance, observational data from the Southern Ocean are extremely limited, and numerical models are insufficiently constrained. As a result, the uncertainties in the behavior of the Southern Ocean and ocean-ice sheet interactions are the biggest sources of error in climate and sea level predictions over decades to centuries.</p> 125 126 <h3>Works</h3> 127 <ul> 128 <a itemprop="sameAs" content="http://www.webofscience.com/wos/author/record/HRC-7878-2023" href="http://www.webofscience.com/wos/author/record/HRC-7878-2023" rel="me noopener noreferrer" style="vertical-align:top;"> 129 <img src="./images/webofscience.png" style="width:1em;margin-right:.5em;" alt="Web of Science iD icon">Web of Science Researcher ID: HRC-7878-2023</a> 130 131 <div itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/Person"><a itemprop="sameAs" content="https://orcid.org/0000-0003-3631-5365" href="https://orcid.org/0000-0003-3631-5365" target="orcid.widget" rel="me noopener noreferrer" style="vertical-align:top;"><img src="https://orcid.org/sites/default/files/images/orcid_16x16.png" style="width:1em;margin-right:.5em;" alt="ORCID iD icon">ORCID ID: 0000-0003-3631-5365</a></div> 132 133 <a itemprop="sameAs" content="https://scholar.google.co.jp/citations?user=D965xOwAAAAJ" href="https://scholar.google.co.jp/citations?user=D965xOwAAAAJ" rel="me noopener noreferrer" style="vertical-align:top;"> 134 <img src="./images/Google_Scholar_logo.svg.png" style="width:1em;margin-right:.5em;" alt="Google Scholar icon">Google Scholar</a> 135 136 <a itemprop="sameAs" content="https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Kaihe_Yamazaki" href="https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Kaihe_Yamazaki" rel="me noopener noreferrer" style="vertical-align:top;"> 137 <img src="./images/RG_Logo.02_Black.White.png" style="width:1em;margin-right:.2em;" alt="RG icon">Research Gate</a> 138 139 <a itemprop="sameAs" content="https://researchmap.jp/kaiheyamazaki?lang=en" href="https://researchmap.jp/kaiheyamazaki?lang=en" rel="me noopener noreferrer" style="vertical-align:top;"> 140 <img src="./images/icon-research.jpg" style="width:3em;margin-right:.5em;" alt="RG icon">Researchmap (CV)</a> 141 142 </ul> 143 </section> 144 145 <ul class="actions"> 146 <li><a href="https://note.com/kaihezak" class="button"> 147 note</a></li> 148 </ul> 149 150 151 152<!-- <section id="tweet"> 153 <h2><font color="#135C89">TWEETS</font></h2> 154 <head> 155 <meta charset="UTF-8"> 156 <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0"> 157 <style> 158 .tweets-container { 159 display: flex; 160 flex-wrap: wrap; 161 gap: 2px; /* Add space between the tweets */ 162 justify-content: space-between; /* Space out the tweets evenly */ 163 } 164 .tweets-container iframe { 165 width: 45%; /* Set the width of each tweet iframe */ 166 height: 500px; 167 transform: scale(1.); /* Adjust the scale as needed */ 168 transform-origin: top left; /* Keep the top left corner fixed during scaling */ 169 box-sizing: border-box; /* Include padding and border in the element's total width and height */ 170 } 171 </style> 172 </head> 173 <body> 174 <div class="tweets-container"> 175 <iframe src="https://twitframe.com/show?url=https://twitter.com/KaiheZak/status/1877595980121649652" frameborder="0"></iframe> 176 <iframe src="https://twitframe.com/show?url=https://twitter.com/KaiheZak/status/1874656852820316563" frameborder="0"></iframe> 177 </div> 178 </body> 179 </section> 180 --> 181 <section id="tweet"> 182 <h2><font color="#135C89">TWEETS</font></h2> 183 <style> 184 /* ---------- 3 ã«ã©ã 横並㳠---------- */ 185 .tweets-container { 186 display: flex; 187 flex-wrap: nowrap; /* æãè¿ãã 1 è¡ */ 188 gap: 3px; /* 縮å°åã®ééï¼3px â è¦ãã㯠~2.4px */ 189 } 190 191 /* ---------- ãã¤ã¼ã縮å°ã©ããã¼ ---------- */ 192 /* scale(0.8) 㧠80 % 表示ãéè£æ£ã㦠â縮å°å¾â å¹ ã 1/3 ã« */ 193 .tweet-wrapper { 194 transform: scale(1.0); /* â æåãå«ã 20 % å°ãã */ 195 transform-origin: top left; 196 width: calc((100% / 2) / 1.0); /* â 33.33% ãéè£æ£ */ 197 max-width: calc(550px / 1.0); /* â data-width ã®ä¸éãè£æ£ */ 198 } 199 200 /* ããã©ã«ãä½ç½ãé¤å»ï¼ä»»æï¼ */ 201 .tweet-wrapper blockquote.twitter-tweet { 202 margin: 0; 203 } 204 </style> 205 206 <div class="tweets-container"> 207<!-- <div class="tweet-wrapper"> 208 <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-conversation="none"> 209 <a href="https://twitter.com/KaiheZak/status/1913019093910954246"></a> 210 </blockquote> 211 </div> --> 212 213 <div class="tweet-wrapper"> 214 <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="350" data-conversation="none"> 215 <a href="https://twitter.com/KaiheZak/status/2010680477754216657"></a> 216 </blockquote> 217 </div> 218 219 <div class="tweet-wrapper"> 220 <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="350" data-conversation="none"> 221 <a href="https://twitter.com/KaiheZak/status/1994299873664
