This is just a static mockup at the moment, links will be added in soon!\\n\\n**Background graphic on hero area**\\n\\n![Hero](/img/hero.png)\\n\\nFor the background image, I reworked the Fedora 29 wallpaper. Fedora IoT\'s colour is purple, so this seems like a good image to use. I think the image reflects an electric connectivity element which suits IoT. \\n\\n**RAM Hero image**\\n\\nThe RAM image used is a 3D blender render so other angles are available. I sourced it on https://www.blenderkit.com/, which has a large library of free assets for Blender. Picking what hardware to use as the hero was tricky as there\'s no single device to use Fedora IoT. Suggestions are welcome but limited to resources available.\\n\\n**Why Fedora IoT?**\\n\\n![why-fiot](/img/whyfiot.png)\\n\\nThis section is similar to that on the Fedora workstation page. Colours were changed to suit the theme of Fedora IoT. Information here was taken from notes taken during meetings with Peter. Suggestions on how to improve the wording are welcome!\\n\\n**Platforms tested against Fedora IoT** \\n\\n![plaforms](/img/platforms.png)\\n\\n\\nInformation on this section was taken from [the docs pages.](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/iot/reference-platforms/) Vendors/platforms displayed are those we have relationships with who are doing in-house testing. I am currently waiting for approval for logo use. \\n\\n**Built By You**\\n\\n![built-by-you](/img/builtbyyou.png)\\n\\nAs Mo stated in her post, one of the goals we have for the website revamp is to make it more obvious how to contribute / how to join Fedora. I just updated the colour scheme to match Fedora IoT\'s colours and changed the contact information. \\n\\n**Feedback Welcome!** \\n\\nI posted this to [Fedora Discussion](https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/fedora-iot-front-page-revamp-looking-for-feedback/39447) for feedback. Currently I am working through the feedback and will post another update soon."},{"id":"Exploring-Blender","metadata":{"permalink":"/Exploring-Blender","editUrl":"https://github.com/blog/2022-02-16-blender-1.md","source":"@site/blog/2022-02-16-blender-1.md","title":"Exploring Blender","description":"The past month I decided to have a look at Blender, an open-source, 3D rendering application. I followed a tutorial on *Linked In Learning* called [Blender 2.91 Essential Training by David Andrade](https://www.linkedin.com/learning/blender-2-91-essential-training/). It was very thorough and well explained, with a mini project for each section. The course took me around two weeks to complete (around other work). \\n\\n\x3c!--truncate--\x3e\\n\\nFor the first section, we just played around with light and getting used to the composition of the object. Getting the hang of the new software was a bit daunting but it\'s getting easier. I had no idea that you would be able to play around with the light so much. It reminded me of taking a photography module during my undergrad. Here\'s my first render using the pre-installed shapes:\\n\\n![3d shapes in blue and pink lighting](/img/myfirstimage.png)\\n![monkey sculpture in pink lighting](/img/monkey.png)\\n\\nThe next few sections focused on creating a fish in a fish bowl composition. I found the sculpting hard to get my head around. No matter how hard I tried my fish just looked childish, but it\'s all a learning curve. Here\'s my lovely fish all painted: \\n\\n![3d fish painted with shades of pink and blue eyes](/img/fishpainted.png)\\n\\nAfter that we looked into animation. This part was covered in multiple sections as it can be quite complex for beginners. I had to make the fish go around the volcano in the fish bowl. You had to add \'bones\' to the fish in order to make different parts of his body move. \\n\\n![showing internal bones of 3d fish](/img/bones.png)\\n\\nAfter that there was bubble emitters added and a fire on the top of the \'volcano\'. There was also a rock added in to drop into the fish bowl to show the water rippling. \\n\\n![fire and smoke coming out of 3d volcano](/img/blenderfire.png)\\n\\nI added in a background world from [Ploy Haven](https://polyhaven.com/). Finally, all of this was rendered and created into an animation. I linked the final result [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jP-4JZTWGcY). \\n\\n![3d render of fish in a fish bowl with rocks and volcano](/img/render.png)\\n\\nI\'d recommend this course to anyone who is interested in learning how to use Blender. \\n\\n![Certificate of Completion from Linkedin Learning](/img/blendercert.png)\\n\\nThanks for reading and I hope to update on some other projects soon :)"},{"id":"FIoT Mockups","metadata":{"permalink":"/FIoT Mockups","editUrl":"https://github.com/blog/2022-01-20-fiot.md","source":"@site/blog/2022-01-20-fiot.md","title":"Fedora IoT Web Page - Initial Ideas","description":"Just an update on what I\'ve been working on :) Click through to see my process and progress starting to create a web page mock-up for Fedora IoT as part of the Fedora Website Revamp!","date":"2022-01-20T00:00:00.000Z","formattedDate":"January 20, 2022","tags":[{"label":"design","permalink":"/tags/design"},{"label":"fiot","permalink":"/tags/fiot"},{"label":"penpot","permalink":"/tags/penpot"},{"label":"mockups","permalink":"/tags/mockups"},{"label":"2022","permalink":"/tags/2022"}],"readingTime":2.155,"truncated":true,"authors":[{"name":"Emma Kidney","title":"Intern @ Red Hat CPE","image_url":"https://github.com/ekidneyrh.png","imageURL":"https://github.com/ekidneyrh.png"}],"frontMatter":{"slug":"FIoT Mockups","title":"Fedora IoT Web Page - Initial Ideas","authors":{"name":"Emma Kidney","title":"Intern @ Red Hat CPE","image_url":"https://github.com/ekidneyrh.png","imageURL":"https://github.com/ekidneyrh.png"},"tags":["design","fiot","penpot","mockups","2022"]},"prevItem":{"title":"Exploring Blender","permalink":"/Exploring-Blender"},"nextItem":{"title":"Introduction","permalink":"/introduction"}},"content":"Just an update on what I\'ve been working on :) Click through to see my process and progress starting to create a web page mock-up for Fedora IoT as part of the Fedora Website Revamp!\\n\\n\x3c!--truncate--\x3e\\n\\nAs part of the Fedora Website Revamp, I got tasked with creating a mock-up of the Fedora IoT web page. I reference the Fedora IoT logo a lot here. I was unable to locate high quality SVGs, so I just made some quick vectors as placeholders. \\n\\n![Logos](/img/logos.png)\\n\\nI bounced off of what Mo was creating for the Fedora Workstation page in order to keep things cohesive. I looked at her mood board when brainstorming. I\'ve included a picture below of my initial ideas:\\n\\n ![Brainstorm](/img/fiot-ideas.png)\\n\\nI wanted to do something with the cubes that are used in the Fedora IoT logo. I compared them to an image on the mood board of an LED ke
1yboard. \\n\\n![Pattern](/img/g5629.png)\\n\\nThis was what I came up with! So then I placed in the mock-up along with a placeholder hero image, as well as fading out the gradient toward the end to it can merge into the rest of the page.\\n\\n![Pattern Mockup1](/img/gradient-comp.png)\\n\\nMy second idea was to take the square and make it into a gradient cube and sort of morph it into a suitable background.\\n\\n![](/img/fiot-ideas-3.png)\\n\\nHere is the draft I made up following on from that idea:\\n\\n![Mockup](/img/idea2.png)\\n\\nI tried to implement a duplicate of the cube within the pattern but I don\'t think it works too well. \\n\\n![Mockup2](/img/idea3.png)\\n\\n![Mockup3](/img/idea4.png)\\n\\nConsidering that the IoT edition is aims for edge devices and such, I thought about maybe including a RaspbarryPi as the hero image: \\n\\n![RPi idea](/img/hardware.png)\\n\\nI currently don\'t have a high quality image of an Raspberry Pi but I was provided with an SVG created by a previous intern. With that as a placeholder, here are my current drafts for the Fedora IoT web page: \\n\\n![Mockup3](/img/idea5.png)\\n\\n![Mockup3](/img/idea6.png)\\n\\nObviously these are just drafts for the moment. More work needs to go into refining the details etc but I just wanted to give you an idea of what I have so far! \\n\\nFor my next steps, I\'m in the process of learning Blender with the goal of possibly creating a 3D rendering of a RaspberryPi. I am also going to refine the background with the gradient cuboid and plan out the rest of the web page. \\n\\nIf you have any feedback for me on my current drafts please don\'t hesitate to either message me @ ekidney:matrix.org or email me @ [email protected] :) I am also active on the \\\\#design:fedoraproject.org channel."},{"id":"introduction","metadata":{"permalink":"/introduction","editUrl":"https://github.com/blog/2021-12-08-introduction.md","source":"@site/blog/2021-12-08-introduction.md","title":"Introduction","description":"Hello!
