It's more comfortable for him to stay when he's already sitting or laying down, so you'll often say something like "Watson sit. Watson stay."
6
The visual cue for stay is holding your hand up in a "stop" motion. You may use this at the same time as the verbal command, or use either one by themselves.

Down

If you say "Watson down," he will lay down on all four legs with his stomach touching the ground. Basically, you just point towards the ground with your pointer finger. You can use this visual command with the verbal command or use just one of them.
8
*Note: Watson likes this command the least of all commands. He usually resists it, so after you say "Watson down," and he doesn't do it, you have to shake your head and say "nuh uh" in a mean voice and then he will do it, while grumbling and huffing his discontent.

A photo of Watson laying down.

Shake

If you first ask Watson to "sit," then you can kneel in front of him and hold out your left hand and say "Watson shake." He also knows a visual command for this, which is a closed fist, palm facing the ground. This is very handy if you'd like him to sit but you don't want to say anything because you're on the phone or talking to someone on the street. As always, remember to give him a treat and/or praise him by saying "Good job, Watson!" after he sits for you.
10
When should Watson sit? Just like most commands, the "sit" command should make your life easier! Every morning, before I go outside with Watson on the leash, I ask Watson to sit before he follows me out the door. When a dog sits patiently while their owner goes through a door before them, it prevents them from lunging out the door and yanking you behind them while you hold on to the leash. I also ask Watson to sit when I need to either put a leash on him or take a leash off him (it's easier to do this when he's sitting!). Finally, I ask him to sit for every treat, even if he earned the treat through obeying another command. This ensures that he doesn't try to jump on me or grab the treat out of my hand.

A photo of Watson sitting down.

Jump

Say "Watson jump!" while you hold a treat over a somewhat tall object (a chair, a foot rest, a broom handle).
