Her husband, a producer at the same media outlet, had seen Houthi tanks approaching.</span></p> 318<p class="text-align-justify" dir="ltr"><span>Like most residents, they fled that night to the southern city of Aden, controlled by the Yemeni government, which is backed by neighbouring Saudi Arabia. âNo one seemed to understand what was happening,â the television station employee told RSF. âThatâs what worries journalists the most: being unable to access information in a dangerous environment where rumours prevail.â Since then, the two journalists have been forcibly displaced and are currently unemployed.</span></p> 319<p class="text-align-justify" dir="ltr"><span>Further north in Sanaâa, the capital and a Houthi stronghold, reporters refuse to comment on the situation for fear of reprisals. âEven on Facebook, no one dares to cover the news,â said a journalist who fled the city in recent days. Even before the war, the militia would frequently summon him due to his content, such as âa report on infectious diseasesâ that the armed group claimed was âspreading fear,â according to the journalist. This means the Houthis or other actors could label me and consider me a target,â he explained, illustrating how media professionals are caught in the crossfire between the warring parties.</span></p> 344<p class="text-align-justify" dir="ltr"><span>Since 2014, 40 journalists have been killed in the country, according to </span><a href="/barometre"><u>RSF data</u></a><span>. Four journalists, among whom are the independent reports </span><strong>Hassan Zayed </strong>and <strong>Salah al-Din al-Rouhani, </strong>as well as reporter<span> </span><strong>Nabil al-Sadawi </strong>from the press agency Saba, detained since 2015<span> â are still missing after being abducted by the Houthis. While the Houthis have the worst record when it comes to killings, abductions and censorship, government forces and other local actors, such as southern separatists, are also known to arrest and intimidate members of the press.
