139   			 	<p>Katherine Breen is a physician, a yoga teacher, a healthcare advocate, a kayaker, and a lover of the outdoors.</p>
140                <p>In 2003, Kate graduated with a BA Political Science and Human Rights from St. Thomas University. The following year she worked as a program manager with the Rwanda NGO Forum on HIV/AIDS in Kigali. During her time in East Africa, Kate hiked the Virunga Mountains and visited the endangered mountain gorillas. She traveled throughout Rwanda, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In January 2004 she hiked to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak.</p>
141                <p>The experience of working in Rwanda led Kate to pursue a career in medicine, earning her MD from McMaster University in 2007. Maintaining an interest in politics and advocacy, she was elected President of the Ontario Medical Student Association and Served on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Medical Association in 2006.</p>
142                <p>During her residency training, Kate’s passion for humanitarian medicine led her to Kampala, Uganda where she spent six weeks working on a labour and delivery ward at the Nysambya hospital. When she wasn’t busy delivering babies, Kate visited Jinja and did some whitewater k

142ayaking on the Nile.</p>
143                <p>After completing her post-graduate training in Family Medicine, Kate turned her energy northwards and began practicing medicine at the Qikiqtani General Hospital in Iqaluit in 2009. She continues to focus on the areas of Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics, Tuberculosis, and Wilderness Medicine and holds a teaching appointment at the Memorial University of Newfoundland.</p>
