However, it is a phrase that feels almost impossible to reconcile with the Galway of today.</p> 685<p>Because something has changed. Or perhaps, more accurately, something that was always here has been given the space, confidence and support to flourish.</p> 686<p>Galway has become a place where ideas are not simply imagined, but made real. It is a city and county with a remarkable instinct for creation — whether that means building a global business, developing a new technology, launching a cultural movement, shaping a service, creating a product, or simply finding a new way of doing things. The impulse to make something, to contribute something, to leave something behind, feels deeply embedded in the Galway psyche. We know, because we feel the Advertiser is one such example.</p> 687<p>Look around and the evidence is everywhere. Companies that began with an idea in a kitchen, a university laboratory, a small office or around a table in a Galway pub have grown into successful enterprises with customers, employees and influence far beyond the county. Creative ventures have found audiences around the world. Services conceived here have travelled well beyond the city limits. And alongside the commercial success stories are countless cultural and community initiatives that have helped give Galway its distinctive character — proof that innovation is not confined to balance sheets or boardrooms.</p> 688<p>None of this has happened by accident.</p> 689<p>Galway has developed an ecosystem in which ambition can be nurtured. Its universities and educational institutions have provided talent, research and ideas. Innovation hubs and enterprise supports have offered the practical assistance needed to turn those ideas into businesses. The Galway Chamber and the wider business community have helped create connections and champion the interests of local enterprise. Entrepreneurs, investors, academics, creatives and community organisations have, in their different ways, contributed to an environment where collaboration is often valued as much as competition.</p> 690<p>And perhaps that is one of Galway’s greatest strengths: a culture of togetherness.</p> 691<p>There is a particular willingness here to support the notion of Galway itself — to recognise that when one business succeeds, when one entrepreneur takes an idea beyond the city, or when one creative venture earns recognition elsewhere, it reflects positively on the place from which it came.
