These 'environmental envelopes' are matched 59 against an authority file which contains respective information 60 for the Oceans of the World. Independent knowledge such as 61 distribution by FAO areas or bounding boxes are used to avoid 62 mapping species in areas that contain suitable habitat, but are 63 not occupied by the species. Maps show the color-coded likelihood 64 of a species to occur in a half-degree cell, with about 50 km 65 side length near the equator. Experts are able to review, modify 66 and approve maps. 67 68 <br><br> 69 Environmental envelopes are created in 70 part (FAO areas, bounding boxes, depth ranges) from respective 71 information in species databases such as <a href="//fishbase.org">FishBase</a> 72 and <a href="//sealifebase.org/">SeaLifeBase</a> 73 and in part from occurrence records available from <a href="//gbif.org">GBIF</a> or <a href="//obis.org">OBIS</a>. 74 AquaMaps predictions have been validated successfully 75 for a number of species using independent data sets and the model was shown to perform equally 76 well or better than other standard species distribution models, when faced with the currently 77 existing suboptimal input data sets (<a href="//doi.org/10.1016/j.ecolmodel.2009.10.025">Ready et al. 2010</a>). 78 </td> 79 </tr> 80</table> 81 82<!--start contacts--> 83<br> 84<table width="80%" class="p_remark1"> 85 <tr><td colspan="2" class="t_value1B">Contacts</td></tr> 86 <tr><td class='plinks3' width="60%">Gabriel Reygondeau, coordinator</td></tr> 87 <tr><td class='plinks3'> E-mail: <a href="mailto:[email protected]" target="_blank" class="plinks3">[email protected]</a></td></tr> 88 <tr><td class='plinks3'> Instagram: <a href="https://www.instagram.com/aquamap" target="_blank" class="plinks3">@aquamap</a></td></tr> 89 <tr><td class='plinks3'> Twitter: <a href="https://twitter.com/Nuestracr" target="_blank" class="plinks3">@nuestracr</a></td></tr> 90 <tr><td class='plinks3'>Kristin Kaschner, model development</td></tr> 91 <tr></tr> 92 <tr></tr> 93 <tr><td class='plinks3'> Contact: the <a href="mailto:[email protected]">AquaMaps team</a></td></tr> 94 <!--<tr><td class='plinks3'>Ma.
