The dictionary provides a comprehensive grammatical description of more than 333 000 Polish words (lexemes), among which both lexemes present in Polish dictionaries and texts and potential lexemes are to be found. Therefore SGJP covers fundamental part of vocabulary of contemporary Polish, including the most common proper names that occur in Polish texts.
143 144
SGJP is a source of information on Polish language useful for linguists, philologists, editors, translators, students as well as other aware users of Polish who seek grammatical information. The dictionary is really useful in the process of learning Polish as a foreign language. The Dictionary distinctly enriches one's knowledge about the Polish language. It provides inflectional forms of words and, moreover it presents information on many other grammatical features (especially syntactical ones) of lexemes, among others gender for nouns, case government for prepositions and nouns, or aspect for verbs. In principle it does not contain meanings of lexemes.
145 146 147
In order to publish the Dictionary on the Internet, we needed to adapt the tools to the needs of the online application. This was done by the use of Kuznia. It is a tool made by the Institute of Computer Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences, which was modified and enriched for the purpose of the SGJP Online project (among other things, the editorial mechanism was considerably extended, and user interface built from scratch).
148 149 150
A number of changes, additions and corrections was introduced to the Dictionary, both individual and systemic. Among other things, there was added information about the category of depreciativity for over 16 000 nouns of masculine personal gender (marked forms as well as rare or potential non-depreciative forms are indicated); a new systematization of inflectional patterns, based on Jan Tokarski's scheme included in Doroszewski's Dictionary of Polish, was introduced. Moreover, the functionality of searching through the Dictionary's resources was greatly extended. A SGJP Online user can filter lexemes according to the types of inflection (inflectional patterns), as well as to various attributes (values of grammatical categories, qualifiers, etc.), and effectively reduce the list of entries appearing on screen to match the desired criteria. (For example, the user can view only nouns with multiple genders, or marked as obsolete, or only proper names, etc.) 151
152 153 154
We systematically work on improving the dictionary and are interested in contact with SGJP users. We will appreciate all kind of comments and suggestions on defects, mistakes, etc. They can be sent to: [email protected].
155 156
Contributors to SGJP
157
The works on the first edition (carried out within the confines of the project SÅownik gramatyczny jÄzyka polskiego sponsored by State Committee for Scientific Re

It was published in 2007 by the "Wiedza Powszechna" publishing house. It was developed by four authors: Zygmunt Saloni, WÅodzimierz GruszczyÅski, Marcin WoliÅski and Robert WoÅosz, in a form of a computer programme in a CD-ROM. Attached to it there was a printed brochure, which included merely a lengthy theoretical introduction and the programme's user guide (which was also included in the CD-ROM).
227 228
The immense amount of the material included and the necessity to publish the Dictionary at a precise moment in time caused the different elements of the Dictionary (groups of entries, grammatical characteristics) to be carried out to varying degrees of precision. The unevenness was also caused by the way the work was undertaken technically â as it was divided into several authors, each having different preferences and habits.
229 230

230Over the years the Dictionary was modified, amended and its scope broadened. Thus when the first edition of the Dictionary was bought out, the authors decided to publish a new edition. The second edition of SGJP was published in 2012 and was partially sponsored by the Faculty of Applied Linguistics of the University of Warsaw. Danuta SkowroÅska became one of the authors. The second edition of the SGJP had the same format as the first: a computer programme on a CD and a brochure with an introduction.
231 232
In the years 2012-2015, the National Science Centre (Narodowe Centrum Nauki) sponsored the realization of the project "Grammatical dictionary of Polish â online version" (project number 2011/01/B/HS2/04695) under the OPUS 1 competition. The purpose of the project was to publish the changed and improved version of the SGJP on the Internet. 233
234 235
236Second edition: Warszawa, 2012, CD + 182 s., ISBN 978-83-927277-2-9.
