Attraverso opere, installazioni e interventi diffusi, la Stazione dell'Arte si estende oltre gli spazi espositivi, trasformando l'intero paese in un museo a cielo aperto.",legarsi:{eyebrow:"1981",title:"Legarsi alla montagna",paragraphs:["Nel 1981 Maria Lai torna da Roma nel suo paese natale, Ulassai, non per «portare» un monumento dall'esterno, ma per attivare un processo condiviso.","Tutto nasce da una richiesta pubblica: realizzare un monumento ai caduti. L'artista rifiuta l'impostazione commemorativa e avvia invece una lunga e delicata negoziazione, perché l'opera - per essere autentica - deve confrontarsi con la memoria viva del paese, con i suoi conflitti e con la sua capacità di riconoscersi come comunità.","A orientare l'immaginario è una leggenda locale: una bambina, inseguendo un filo azzurro nel cielo in tempesta, si salva uscendo da una grotta un attimo prima del crollo.","Nasce così Legarsi alla montagna, un'azione pubblica essenziale e corale. Un nastro azzurro lungo circa 27 chilometri viene preparato e affidato alla popolazione. In tre giorni il nastro è tagliato, distribuito e legato tra porte, finestre e terrazze, ridisegnando - letteralmente - le connessioni tra case e persone: donne, bambini, pastori, anziani. Il gesto non annulla le differenze, ma le rende visibili e praticabili nello spazio comune, trasformando una festa di paese in un dispositivo di ascolto e negoziazione. Al termine, alcuni scalatori portano il nastro fino al Monte Gedili, suggellando l'unione simbolica tra il tessuto urbano e il paesaggio che lo sostiene e lo minaccia.","Lai definisce i nastri «leggeri» ed «effimeri», quasi inutili - «sono appena di un colore, non servono a nulla». Proprio in questa apparente inutilità risiede la loro forza: spostare lo sguardo dal monumento-oggetto alla relazione-azione. L'opera coincide con il suo farsi: il pubblico non assiste, ma partecipa attivamente alla costruzione dell'evento.","Non sorprende che, negli anni successivi, curatori e istituzioni abbiano riconosciuto in questo intervento un antecedente fondamentale delle pratiche partecipative contemporanee, spesso indicato come uno dei primi esempi di arte relazionale in Italia - ben prima che la categoria fosse teorizzata nel 1998 da Nicolas Bourriaud. All'epoca, tuttavia, l'azione fu anche fraintesa come folclore; una parte della critica ne colse invece subito la portata, come Filiberto Menna, che ne riconobbe la capacità di restituire voce a un'intera comunità e di trasformare la memoria in energia sociale."],todayTitle:"Un atto generativo",todayParagraphs:["Oggi, guardata dalla Stazione dell'Arte, Legarsi alla montagna appare come un atto generativo: l'origine di un museo diffuso. Dal 1981 in poi, una costellazione di opere e interventi pubblici ha trasformato Ulassai in un museo a cielo aperto, con la sede museale istituita nel 2006 come luogo di raccolta, studio e restituzione.","Non è un caso che il museo continui a rielaborare la grammatica del filo anche nella propria architettura narrativa: all'esterno, nastri celesti in ceramica guidano i visitatori tra gli edifici, rimandando idealmente all'azione del 1981; all'interno, il percorso espositivo si sviluppa come un itinerario in divenire, costruito per «fili» e motivi conduttori che mutano nel tempo.","Il risultato è un invito aperto: entrare nell'opera non come spettatori, ma come partecipanti attivi."],book:"Il libro «Legarsi alla Montagna» di Elena Pontiggia, con fotografie di Piero Berengo Gardin, è disponibile presso il bookshop del museo e online tramite Five Continents Editions.",caption:"Maria Lai, «Legarsi alla montagna», intervento su fotografia di Piero Berengo Gardin (1981–1982) © Archivio Maria Lai"}

The artist refused the commemorative framing and instead opened a long, delicate negotiation - because the work, to be authentic, had to confront the living memory of the village, its conflicts and its capacity to recognise itself as a community.","A local legend guided the imagination: a little girl, chasing a blue thread through a stormy sky, escapes from a cave moments before it collapses.","Legarsi alla montagna was born from this - an essential, choral public action. A blue ribbon roughly 27 kilometres long was prepared and entrusted to the people of Ulassai. Over three days the ribbon was cut, distributed and tied between doors, windows and terraces, literally redrawing the connections between houses and people: women, children, shepherds, elders. The gesture didn't erase differences but made them visible and workable in shared space, turning a village festival into a device for listening and negotiation. At the end, climbers carried the ribbon up to Monte Gedili, sealing the symbolic union between the village fabric and the landscape that both sustains and threatens it.","Lai described the ribbons as «light» and «ephemeral», almost useless - «they are just a colour, they are good for nothing». Their strength lies precisely in that apparent uselessness: a shift of attention from the monument-object to the relation-action. The work coincides with its making: the public doesn't attend, it actively builds the event.","It is no surprise that, in the following years, curators and institutions recognised in this intervention a fundamental antecedent of contemporary participatory practices, often cited as one of the first examples of relational art in Italy - well before the category was theorised in 1998 by Nicolas Bourriaud. At the time, the action was also dismissed as folklore; yet part of the criticism, like Filiberto Menna, immediately grasped its power to give voice to a whole community and turn memory into social energy."],todayTitle:"A generative act",todayParagraphs:["Today, seen from Stazione dell'Arte, Legarsi alla montagna appears as a generative act: the origin of a diffuse museum. Since 1981, a constellation of works and public interventions has turned Ulassai into an open-air museum, with the museum building established in 2006 as a place of collection, study and restitution.","It is no coincidence that the museum keeps reworking the grammar of the thread within its own narrative architecture: outside, sky-blue ceramic ribbons guide visitors between buildings, echoing the 1981 action; inside, the exhibition unfolds as an itinerary in the making, built through «threads» and recurring motifs that change over time.","The result is an open invitation: to enter the work not as spectators, but as active participants."],book:"The book «Legarsi alla Montagna» by Elena Pontiggia, with photographs by Piero Berengo Gardin, is available at the museum bookshop and online through Five Continents Editions.",caption:"Maria Lai, «Legarsi alla montagna», intervention on a photograph by Piero Berengo Gardin (1981–1982) © Archivio Maria Lai"},museo:{eyebrow:"Diffuse museum",title:"A village as an open-air museum",paragraphs:["Within the village, perfectly integrated into the urban fabric and natural landscape, you encounter works that have made Ulassai a permanent laboratory of art and relation.","Among them, the Lavatoio (1982–1989), a collective intervention based on a 1902 project, which hosts works by Luigi Veronesi (Fontana della sorgente, 1984), Guido Strazza (La fontana del grano, 1989), Maria Lai (Telaio-soffitto, 1982) and Costantino Nivola's last work (Fontana sonora, 1982), later replicated in the Nivola museum in Orani.","These works, central to the artist's poetic path and to the dialogue between art and community, form a unique cultural heritage, intimately woven into the territory of Ulassai."],worksTitle:"Works across the territory",works:[{title:"Le capre cucite",year:"
