24<div class="fs-6 line-5 mb-3 mt-1">The Bristol Virginia Police Department has recovered a significant amount of stolen property and filed multiple charges following an investigation involving several breaking and entering and larceny cases. On Sept. 12, Bristol Virginia Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a residence for a report of a possible breaking and entering. Officers searched the area and located a male subject hiding inside a garage. The subject, identified as Corey Wimmer, 33, of Bristol, Virginia, was taken into custody without incident. Officers also confirmed that Wimmer had outstanding warrants from the Virginia State Police and Tazewell County. Wimmer was charged with trespassing and served with the outstanding warrants. He was transported to the Abingdon facility of the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority, where he was held without bond. &nbsp; <script type="text/javascript">AdGroup16();</script> &nbsp; On Sept. 13, 2026, BVPD Patrol Officers responded to another residence for a reported breaking and entering involving a large amount of stolen property. During the investigation, the victim advised officers that he had observed some of his stolen property in plain view at another residence approximately one street away. The tenant of that property gave officers consent to search the property. BVPD Detectives responded and continued the investigation. Through their investigation at that location and additional locations identified during the case, officers and detectives were able to recover property connected to additional open cases. Recovered property included four electric bicycles, power tools, miscellaneous jewelry, weed eaters, lawnmower, a metal detector, a silver kitchen set, a Chevrolet truck, and other miscellaneous property. The additional cases involved incidents occurring between Aug. 5 and Sept. 12. One of those incidents, involving the unauthorized use of a vehicle, occurred prior to Wimmer&rsquo;s arrest but was not reported to BVPD until Sept. 16. Wimmer was identified as the suspect in that case. As a result of the investigations, Wimmer has been charged with misdemeanor petit larceny, intentional damage, unauthorized use of a vehicle and trespassing and felony breaking and entering of a house, breaking entering of a building and three counts of grand larceny. He was also charged with failure to appear for arraignment. Wimmer is being held without bond at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority. &nbsp;</div>

The measure, approved on second reading, amends the city&rsquo;s zoning code. Previously, such facilities could be established by right without public hearings or formal council review. Under the new rules, proposals must go through public hearings before both the Planning Commission and City Council, giving residents opportunities to comment and providing greater council oversight. <script type="text/javascript">AdGroup16();</script> &nbsp; Council members cited public concerns about noise, environmental impacts and higher utility costs reported at some data centers elsewhere. They stressed the need to balance technological development with community protections. Officials noted that many local businesses already operate small-scale data facilities and said the ordinance is aimed at larger operations that could create significant impacts if poorly sited. The changes are intended to prevent disruptive facilities while still allowing appropriate development under close review. &nbsp;</div>

101<div class="fs-6 line-2 mb-3 mt-1">&nbsp; YWCA Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, in a vital community partnership with the Bristol TN Police Department, has officially opened Fall 2026 registration for its highly popular Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) course. Offered free of charge, this 12-hour comprehensive program is specifically engineered to empower women by teaching essential risk awareness, threat prevention and realistic, hands-on physical defense strategies. The course will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, Thursday, Oct. 8, Tuesday, Oct. 13, and Thursday, Oct. 15. <script type="text/javascript">AdGroup16();</script> &nbsp; This season's sessions arrive at an important time. By intentionally hosting the course across four evenings in October, YWCA NETN and SWVA aligns its local safety programming directly with Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The timing also intentionally intersects with YWCA USA&rsquo;s annual signature campaign, Week Without Violence, which takes place nationwide from Oct. 19&ndash;23. The 2026 Week Without Violence national theme centers on the safety, voices and systemic healing of young people, asking the critical question, "What do younger generations need not just to survive partner and gender-based violence but to truly heal and thrive?" Youth and young adult populations are disproportionately impacted by sexual assault and relationship abuse, and RAD classes actively bridge that gap by welcoming young women ages 13 and up (when accompanied by a parent or guardian). "Meaningful violence prevention requires giving women and girls the tangible tools and confidence needed to claim&mdash;or reclaim&mdash;their physical safety," said Caitlin Talley, director of YWCA's Moms-R-Us program and a RAD instructor. "By partnering with local law enforcement during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we want every participant, especially the young women highlighted in this year's national Week Without Violence campaign, to move beyond survival mode and into empowerment." Led by certified instructors, RAD caters to all physical skill levels. Due to high demand and the intensive nature of hands-on tactics, spaces are limited, and pre-registration is required. Participants must plan to attend all four classes. For more information, contact YWCA at 423-968-9444 or [email protected] .
