I've always been fascinated by astrophysics, which led me to do my social service at the Nuclear Science Institute working on astroparticle physics. But even though I love outer space, I've always felt this intense pull toward the social sciences, so most of my electives ended up being in economics and sociophysics.\n\nAfter seeing how data science can actually improve people's lives, I decided to pivot my career in that direction. I did my master's in data science at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM), where I sharpened my computational and statistical skills. Then I earned my PhD in Complex Systems and Data Science from the University of Vermont, focusing on how data science and mathematical modeling can tackle social inequalities, especially the disparities that surfaced during COVID-19.\n\nNow I'm a postdoctoral researcher at UC Berkeley, where I work on understanding mobility patterns, employment choices, and economic complexity in developing countries. My research interests span computational social science, machine learning, network theory, and anything that helps us make better decisions for vulnerable populations.\n\nI absolutely love Julia, NeoVim, and the open source community. I'm always down to share, teach, and help out. My alter ego is more of an artistic soul: I've studied Latin and classical percussion, classical guitar, worked as a photographer, can spend entire days wandering through museums, love playing and listening to jazz, and have a weakness for all kinds of movies. Both sides of me love playing soccer, have survived a marathon, enjoy rock climbing, and commute everywhere by bike."},{name:"McFly",role:"Chief of Moral Support Officer",bio:"Beautiful soul.
