652non ha mai cantato in Italiano. Gli unici due contatti con l'Italia in 653questo 654senso sono purtroppo legati a episodi non troppo felici. Il primo 655riguarda <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.eltonjohnitaly.com/livelikehorses.html">Live 656Like Horses</a>, 657bellissima canzone, già abbastanza distrutta dall'arrangiamento di <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.eltonjohnitaly.com/christhomas.html">Chris 658Thomas</a> nella 659versione presente in <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.eltonjohnitaly.com/bigpicture.html">The 660Big Picture</a> del 1997, uccisa definitivamente dal duetto con <span style="font-style: italic;">Luciano 661Pavarotti</span>. Il secondo 662episodio, più recente (2002), è la nuova versione 663di <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.eltonjohnitaly.com/yoursong.html">Your 664Song</a> con 665l'accompagnamento (non è un vero e proprio duetto) di 666 <span style="font-style: italic;">Alessandro Safina</span>. In 667ambedue i casi lo scopo benefico dell'iniziativa non giustifica il 668risultato 669finale che in ogni modo è veramente discutibile. All'inizio 670degli anni ‘90 671erano circolate voci che Elton avesse proposto a <span style="font-style: italic;">Mina</span> di fare un duetto 672con lei 673e che la cantante italiana avesse rifiutato, ma la notizia non 674è mai stata 675confermata. I legami con l'Italia si devono soprattutto all'amicizia 676con Gianni 677e la famiglia <span style="font-style: italic;">Versace</span>, 678che hanno sicuramente favorito il gran numero di 679concerti proposti nel nostro paese negli ultimi anni. Nel 2001 Elton ha 680acquistato anche un appartamento a Venezia ed è stato tra i 681protagonisti dei 682concerti di riapertura della Fenice dopo la ricostruzione. Per quanto 683riguarda 684la produzione discografica non ci sono pezzi particolari di gran valore 685che 686siano stati stampati solo nel nostro paese, a parte i 45 giri dei primi 687anni ‘70 688e alcune raccolte. Sono invece abbastanza ricercati i 689bootleg su CD 690prodotti (legalmente) agli inizi degli anni ‘90, 691successivamente messi fuori 692legge da alcune modifiche alla legislazione sul copyright. 693 Un'occasione, in 694parte, mancata, è stato il megaconcerto dei Fori Imperiali a 695Roma il 3 696settembre del 2005, con una presenza di circa 400.000 spettatori di 697fronte al 698Colosseo, dove Elton, deludendo molte aspettative, ha proposto uno 699spettacolo 700standard, come si trattasse di una qualsiasi data del tour. Nel 7012007 702dovevano 703esserci le due date, in piazza S. Marco a Venezia, per il Red Piano 704Tour In 705Europe, che però è stato completamente annullato 706a causa della fallimentare 707prevendita di biglietti, dovuta ai prezzi assurdi (200 - 1000 euro!). 708 Altro ritorno in grande stile, a parte i concerti standard, a 709Napoli, a trentasei anni dal precedente concerto della prima 710torneè italiana del 1973, con il concerto in Piazza del 711Plebiscito nel settembre del 2009, nel corso della festa di 712Piedigrotta, con circa 80.000 spettatori, diretta radio e successiva 713replica televisiva.
