Today, the utterly positive style and seriousness of reporting in the past make people laugh. As time evolves, juxtaposed with others, absurdity reflects the shadows difficult to discern in the current temporal-spatial context. (Behind) Bright-Side is based on a past initiative of the Government of Taiwan, i.e., sending balloons containing supplies to mainland Chinese as a relief. Related news materials are employed to make audio-visual elements, installations, and sensors for this performance, which depicts the phenomena of spectatorship transformation in terms of thinking.</p> <p>The work was commissioned by the Taiwan Film & Audiovisual Institute. Our mission is to analyze thousands of Taiwanese newsreels (from the 1940s to the 1980s) stored in the National Film and Audiovisual Archive from an artist’s perspective. We aim to find themes and audiovisual materials to serve as focal points for creation. The performance serves as a medium to “activate” the database, and we ultimately utilized the theme of floating balloons to thread throughout the entire production.</p> <p>新聞，實際上更像是權力者的政積宣傳器，換得掌權者想像中的安穩社會局勢。過往極度正向報導方式，如此嚴肅的態度，如今卻引人捧腹大笑。隨時代演進，荒謬透過他者對照，映射出當下時空難以看清的陰影。演出藉由過去政府空飄氣球救助中國的行為開始，並運用新聞素材創作影音、裝置、感測器來描述今昔觀者思考轉變之現象。</p> <p>Sound: Yen Tzu Chang </p> <p>Visual: Ning Tsai</p> <p>Installation:Yen Tzu Chang, Ning Tsai</p> <p>CV | ​​Ning Tsai</p> <p>​​Ning Tsai, an artistic practitioner and architectural designer, holds an MS in Architecture and is interested in interdisciplinary exploration.
